The Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Department was established in 1998, by means of a resolution of the University Miguel Hernández of Elche (UMH), including the teaching staff of the former Neurochemistry Department. At present, the Department’s teaching staff comprises 24 professors, senior lecturers and part-time lecturers, organized into different research groups, as well as more than a hundred postgraduate students working in the different research areas and Institutes of the University. The main objectives of the department are the development and support of educational programmes in biochemistry for the education of undergraduate and postgraduate students, training of research staff and the development of basic and applied research in the areas of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology and Biomedicine. The Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Department participates in the teaching activity of the different degrees of the University, in the Bioscience Schools of Medicine and Pharmacy (Campus of San Juan), in the Faculty of Science (Campus of Elche) and also in the College of Technology (Campus of Orihuela). The Department displays a great activity not only in the different campuses of the university, but also in the two main Hospitals of Alicante and Elche via different educational agreements. The staff of the department has given place to the publication of numerous scientific articles in international journals and participate in different Master Programs that allow our students for the realization of different Doctoral Theses each year in all fields of biochemistry.
